The Škocjan Caves are exceptional natural site in Classical Karst region on UNESCO’s list of world natural and cultural heritage sites. The rugged relief of the landscape provides habitat for many rare species of plants and animals. Within the protected area, the main activities of the manager are safeguarding of vulnerable cave ecosystems, continuous monitoring, researching of cultural heritage, and the all-important education and awareness-raising of the public. In order to take a step forward in this area, we have joined the MAB programme as a biosphere reserve, within which local residents are also included in the sustainable development of the area.

These days, meetings are taking place with stakeholders of the Delta del Po Biosphere Reserve within the framework of the international Prima RES-MAB project. The objective is to establish a working table for the governance of the territory, with a particular focus on the environment of the lagoon.

As part of the implementation of the RES-MAB (PRIMA) project, aimed at developing adaptation and mitigation solutions based on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus, ANDZOA organized a launch workshop gathering all project stakeholders. This event served as a strategic opportunity to present the project’s objectives and components and to kickstart a collaborative dynamic among key actors committed to enhancing the resilience of Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves to climate change.🔹 Key Workshop Highlights:✅ Presentation of the project’s objectives and allocated resources✅ Identification of intervention areas within the Argan Biosphere Reserve✅ Exploration of WEFE Nexus solutions to strengthen climate resilience✅ Introduction to the three-layer business model framework💡 Discussions focused on climate challenges affecting the Argan Biosphere Reserve, particularly recurring droughts, and assessed the relevance of WEFE Nexus-based approaches for integrated and sustainable management of natural resources.👏 ANDZOA extends its gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their commitment and participation. Additional meetings and workshops will be organized to ensure structured follow-up and to strengthen synergies among RES-MAB project stakeholders.

The Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia is a public research centre affiliated with the Generalitat de Catalunya. The CTFC aims to contribute to science in the fields of sustainable forest management, biodiversity, and circular bioeconomy. Its research is organized around three programs: multifunctional forest management; landscape dynamics and biodiversity; and governance, health, and bioeconomy.
