Pre-doctoral researcher at the Forest Science and Technology Centre (CTFC ) presented the WEFE-SEM tool at the ESP Europe 2026 Conference.

Olivia Cason, pre-doctoral researcher at the Forest Science and Technology Centre (CTFC) and PhD. Candidate at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) participated at the 6th ESP Europe Conference 2026, presenting the framework for the water-energy-food- ecosystems socio-ecological modelling tool (WEFE-SEM tool) as part of the RES-MAB Project. Her presentation took place during Session X5: “Restoration Potential of Coastal Wetlands in Europe for Climate Change Mitigation and Co-benefits” on Wednesday May 20,2026.

She communicated to scientists, PhD students, and practitioners in Ecosystem Services the main outputs of the WEFE-SEM tool using the Po Delta Biosphere Reserve as the demo site to guide audience members through the tool’s five stage process. This involved defining WEFE indicators, building land use and land over maps (LULCs), estimating ecosystem service provision, and validating future scenarios to identify potential ecosystem service tradeoffs and synergies that align with the biosphere reserve’s priorities, sustainable development, and conservation objectives. The tool is designed to support integrated landscape management and accelerate the transformation of Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves into more resilient and climate-adaptive territories.
