Dana Biosphere Reserve Celebrates the Designation of Ajloun and Yarmouk as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves

Under the patronage of the Director General of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature Mr. Fadi Al Naser,
the Dana Biosphere Reserve organized a celebration to mark the designation of Ajloun Forest Reserve and Yarmouk Forest Reserve as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, with the participation of reserve managers from across Jordan.
The event featured a panel discussion on enhancing the implementation of biosphere reserve standards and strengthening collaboration among reserves, to support the protection of Jordan’s natural heritage and integrate economic development, social empowerment, and ecotourism within a comprehensive framework.
During the celebration, Mr. Raed Al-Khawaldeh, Manager of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, presented details about both the Alternative Solutions for Energy, Water, and Biodiversity Project, funded by the European Union, which aims to revive Dana’s orchards, and the RES-MAB Project, highlighting its objectives in promoting sustainable resource management, community resilience, and innovation across biosphere reserves.
