Webinar Highlights Climate Resilience in Biosphere Reserves

Organized by the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Areas and Argan Trees (ANDZOA)

the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Areas and Argan Trees (ANDZOA) successfully hosted a webinar titled “Biosphere Reserves and Climate Change: Knowledge Transfer and Exchange of Best Practices”.

The event brought together experts and stakeholders from across the Mediterranean to discuss innovative approaches for enhancing the resilience of biosphere reserves to climate change.

The webinar was part of the RES-MAB project, a major initiative funded by the PRIMA Foundation. This project focuses on transforming biosphere reserves into “living laboratories” that integrate the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach to promote sustainable development and climate adaptation.

The webinar opened with an overview of its objectives, followed by a series of presentations from national and international experts. Speakers included representatives from ANDZOA, the Regional Direction of ANEF SM, INRA, and the Moroccan Association for Ecotourism and Nature Protection. International contributions featured insights from the International Center for the Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves (UNESCOMED Center), Mont-Ventoux Regional Nature Park in France, and  Dana Biosphere Reserve (RSCN) in Jordan .

The discussions centered on sharing best practices, exchanging knowledge, and exploring collaborative solutions to bolster the resilience of biosphere reserves against climate challenges. The event concluded with a summary of discussions and the identification of actionable next steps for future cooperation.

The webinar reinforced the objectives of the RES-MAB project, which include developing decision-making tools, implementing climate-resilient solutions, and fostering sustainable management practices within biosphere reserves. The project’s holistic WEFE Nexus approach aims to ensure sustainable management of water, energy, food, and ecosystems to address climate challenges effectively.

Participating institutions included ANDZOA, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (Jordan), Mont-Ventoux Regional Nature Park (France), and the Moroccan Association for Ecotourism and Nature Protection.

The event highlighted the critical role of cross-regional collaboration in promoting sustainable development and building resilience across Mediterranean biosphere reserves.

This webinar marked an important milestone in the RES-MAB project, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and reinforcing the shared commitment to confronting climate challenges through science, policy, and innovation.
